I arrived in Buffalo, NY at around 1:00 a.m. last night, and then rode 2 miles to the hotel I had for the night. If you haven’t been keeping up with the blog, I’m taking a few days off in this city while waiting for Michael who’s cycling across New York.

I left the hotel bright and early to ride around and explore the Buffalo area. My step dad, Mike, was born in this town, so I decided to track down the street that he grew up on.

Above was his street, and the church he went to. Cool stuff.

From there I visited an Eastern Mountain Sports that was going out of business, and I picked up a dehydrated meal for later in the ride, and a spare bike chain (mine is already almost worn out).

Now I’m off to the downtown area where I’ll be staying tonight. A friend invited me to a concert tonight; We’ll be going to see the band “Broods.” You can check out a song by them here. I’m going to look a bit out of place with my camping shirt, baggy travel pants, and sandals (one of two sets of street clothing I have on me). Whatever… it’s all part of the fun!

Go visit Michael’s blog post if you want a more biking-related account for today. I’ll only be logging about 20 miles today just circling around the city.

Check back for an update later!

Update (3:40pm): Made it to my hotel in downtown Buffalo! What a beautiful day outside. I ended up riding 25 miles, in and around the city and was greeted by beautiful views, an amazing bike path along the Erie Canal, and some awesome frozen custard.

The folks at the hotel I’m at tonight are the nicest yet. When they saw my bike they gave me a late check-out tomorrow to allot for more time to explore around the city, and treated me to a complementary juice smoothie. I need to bike tour more often!
